The ‘Ainakea sugar plantation has been in Amanda Goodale’s family for generations, but with the harvest failing and the tax collector knocking at the door, what can she do?

This adaptation of Chekhov’s classic The Cherry Orchard, set on Maui’s west side in 1953, is a compelling -- and sometimes hilarious -- look at our island home on the cusp of major change.

James Nevius won the inaugural ProArts Playhouse playwriting competition in 2019 for his full-length comic, sci-fi mystery Murder in the Nth Degree, which debuted in 2022 and was awarded "Best Play" by Broadway World Hawaii. He is also the author of the interactive Zoom mystery Saint Mary Immaculate Virtual High School Reunion, first presented online in 2020, and the one-act comedy Will Power, which was featured as part of Maui OnStage's ONO series in October 2022. He is currently revising one play about Shakespeare, one about a con artist, writing the treatment for a play about a heist gone wrong, outlining an adaptation of Peter Pan, and concocting two different projects based on The Great Gatsby. Under the moniker Promised Road he records a new song every week.
